About the Department

The Department of Chemistry came into existence since the beginning of the college and is one of the most prestigious and is well-known across the University. The Department is engaged in teaching chemistry to students of B.Sc. (H) Chemistry, B.Sc. Life Sciences and B.Sc. Physical Sciences. Currently the Department has a dedicated team of 22 Teaching Staff and 15 well trained Laboratory Staff. The Department has three well-equipped laboratories along with an instrumentation laboratory and three research laboratories that houses modern instruments, such as U.V.-Visible Spectrophotometer, Potentiometers, pH meters, conductometer, colorimeters, sonicator, water quality analyser, muffle furnace rotatory vaporizer, computational workstation and software’s such as Gaussian-09, GausView5 etc.

Apart from classroom teaching, faculty members are also actively involved in persuing research projects and publishing of books and e-learning material. Faculty members have research publications in reputed national and international peer-reviewed/ scopus indexed journals and books. Many of the teachers are actively engaged in framing curricula, revising syllabus under NEP 2020 and writing e-Contents/MOOCs.

The students of this Department have joined various professions ranging from teaching and research to multinational companies and armed forces. They are also able to secure admission in reputed universities and some of the best Post-graduate, research-based Science and Engineering institutes of learning like TIFR, IISc, IITs, NITs, TERI in India and abroad.

It’s a leading department in the university which has commissioned the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for treating the wastewater coming from the laboratory for its reuse and safe disposable to the environment.

The chemical society organizes seminars, workshops and popular lectures on regular basis to enrich and update its members with the latest developments across the globe. One of the most attractive events organized by the society is the Inter-College festival ‘RASAYANIKA’.
